Drexel researchers are working on the design and development of fuel cells and batteries for a wide range of applications. Primary area of research includes: design, diagnostics and characterization of PEM fuel cells, synthesis and design of new polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) for methanol (power for portable electronic devices) and hydrogen (power for automobiles) fuel cells with the target of developing a fundamental understanding of morphology-transport relationships, novel catalyst designs (i.e. platinum supported on carbide-derived carbon). Faculty at Drexel is also working on flow battery technology for grid-scale energy storage. Primary area of research is in the field of vanadium redox flow batteries. Comprehensive experimental and modeling studies are being performed to develop new materials, improve performance and durability metrics of these systems. Related Faculty:
